Tanja Ihden: With passion, innovation, and dedication, she paves the way for the entrepreneurs of tomorrow.

A blueprint for the start-up education of tomorrow

We want to attract people from around the world who either have a business idea, however crazy, or who simply want to do business creatively,” explains the Programme Director. Her goal is ambitious: the programme should not only become a blueprint for similar programmes worldwide but also remain “the original”.
With unique content courses such as Lean Startup & Effectuation, Networks & Funding Opportunities, as well as Scaling and Expansion, the programme goes far beyond traditional business administration. In the first semester, students generate innovative business ideas in a Creativity & Innovation Lab, which they then develop further during their studies. This process is accompanied by intensive boot camps combining theory and practice in an immersive learning environment.

“Our students don’t just have the opportunity to learn – they can implement their ideas directly. And they can do so in a structure designed for collaboration and personal growth,” Ihden emphasises.

A scientist with passion and heart

Ihden’s background shows that an academic career sometimes comes unexpectedly. “During my bachelor degree, I thought: after I graduate, I’ll definitely quit. Then I completed my master degree, and in the end I stayed in academia after all,” she says with a chuckle. The turning point? An exciting doctoral topic that she couldn’t refuse.
Today, Ihden heads the Institute for Entrepreneurship at IMC Krems, combining research, teaching and practice in a unique way. Her research projects are just as visionary as the degree programme: from analysing start-up intentions worldwide to topics such as failure, mental health & entrepreneurship and the use of artificial intelligence to make start-ups more efficient. “We want to close the research gaps in this area and integrate the findings directly into our teaching.”

Focus on students

But Tanja Ihden’s true passion is for students. “At IMC Krems, it’s not just about imparting knowledge, but also about inspiring a love of learning. I want our students to say at the end of their time with us: Wow, I’ve developed so much, both personally and professionally.” To achieve this, she focuses on striking a balance between challenge and support. “I want to make our students ‘waterproof’ – not by keeping the rain out, but by showing them how to prepare for it.’
Ihden particularly values dynamics and agility at IMC Krems. “We are fast, adaptable and implement projects that would take years elsewhere. This is challenging, but also incredibly fulfilling.”

Personality that inspires

Her charismatic nature and sense of humour make Tanja Ihden an inspiring leader. Whether it’s yoga as a constant in her stressful daily routine, adventures in Tashkent without heating or electricity, or spontaneous culinary experiences in Hanoi – Ihden shows that professionalism and humanity go hand in hand.
With her passion, innovative spirit and ability to inspire people, Tanja Ihden is ideally suited to accompany a new generation of founders on their journey.
