Being part of the solution, not the problem

Steve believes that sustainability is one of the most important issues for society today and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. When he discovered the part-time bachelor degree programme in Sustainability Management, he knew it was the perfect fit for him. It allows him to attend all classes while still working to support his family.

Flexible teaching methods

What Steve values most are the varied and flexible teaching methods. Several “simulation games” have been integrated into the curriculum, which helped him grasp concepts in a practical hands-on way.

Positive impacts on professional life

Improving his writing skills, studying sustainability and becoming more familiar with the scientific method have all had a positive impact on Steve’s efficiency and effectiveness, greatly benefiting his professional life.

Personal insights on sustainability

Steve was surprised to learn how long the concept of sustainability has been around. Hans Carl von Carlowitz of Saxony used the term in his 1713 book on sustainable forestry, but the concept only seemed to gain widespread public attention in recent decades. His sustainability tip is to carefully consider purchases before buying and to avoid single-use items. Since beginning his studies in Sustainability Management, he has also started using public transport more frequently.

Personal Growth

Steve recommends studying because learning in general, as well as getting to know and listening to knowledgeable people, expands one’s mental horizons, sometimes challenges preconceived notions, and helps with personal growth.
