International student Szilárd Székely is in his second semester of the Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology bachelor degree programme – right in the middle of an exciting journey, with much more ahead.
Story
From Romania into the World of Biotechnology

Originally from a small town called Racoșul de Sus in Romania, he attended a high school focusing on natural sciences, a direction he wanted to continue in.
Known for his positive attitude as a person who always sees the glass as half full he enjoys spending his free time actively outside for a run or in the gym.
IMC Krems as a stepping stone to international practice fields
While searching for a degree programme and first unsure of what to expect in the field of biotechnology, he discovered the Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology program at IMC Krems. It fulfilled his expectations with its international spirit, student-focused education, modern equipment and facilities.
He especially highlights the practice-oriented education at IMC Krems, which allows him to complete half of his classes in laboratories - gaining essential practical knowledge for his future career.
Looking ahead to the fifth semester, he is excited about the opportunity to complete a 22-week internship, where he can gain valuable insights into a professional lab environment and observe the practices of a company of his choice.
International community
He shares his positive experience with the open and welcoming community at IMC Krems. Thanks to the international spirit and the well-organized welcome programmes designed to bring students together, he felt welcomed and supported from the moment he arrived in Krems.
Furthermore, he highlights the kind and personal interactions with his lecturers, who are highly recognized experts in their fields. For him, the lecturers especially make him feel like being part of a big family. He also emphasizes how important it is for the lecturers to learn students’ names - even if the pronunciation sometimes leads to funny moments.
“IMC. It’s all in me.” – What it means to Szilárd
“IMC. It’s all in me.” for Szilárd means to always believe in oneself. He is a person who sees the glass as half full, also, if there are days when things don’t go as planned, the most important thing you can do is to believe in yourself that you can achieve everything.
From Dreams to Reality
After Szilárd listened to a presentation of the fifth-semester students who recently completed their internships at internationally recognised institutions, it’s clear that what once felt like an impossible dream has now become an achievable goal for him.
After graduation, Szilárd plans to pursue a master degree in the field of genetics and has already set his sights on the OMICS Technologies and Data Science in Biomedicine master degree programme at IMC Krems.
Looking back, he knows how far he already has come and there is even much more ahead, thanks to the support of IMC Krems.
