IMC Krems is taking a major step to strengthen its research competencies by establishing new research professorships in designated research areas. This initiative intends to promote the sustainable development of research groups, expand cooperation with scientific and economic partners, and further advance the integration of research into teaching.

IMC Krems strengthens its research profile with new research professorships

“With the new research professorships, we are creating a forward-looking basis for excellent research and its sustainable anchoring in our university of applied sciences. The targeted promotion of strategic research focus areas not only strengthens our scientific visibility, but also the international competitiveness of IMC Krems,” explains Udo Brändle, CEO and responsible for research at IMC Krems.
A central goal of the research professorships is to increase scientific output, acquire third-party funding for innovative projects and further strengthen IMC’s research expertise through targeted network building.

Department of Life Sciences
Christoph Wiesner – Research Professorship Cellomics/High Content Screening
Focus: development of novel cell-based test systems for the identification of therapeutic targets and new biomarkers in the field of immunology and immuno-oncology.
Reinhard Klein – Research Professorship Virology and RNA Biology
Focus: investigation of virus-host interactions, development of new therapeutic approaches for adenovirus infections and research into the role of chemical RNA modifications.
Department of Business
Markus Eitle – Research Professorship Sustainability in Austrian Viticulture
Focus: development of sustainable and innovative solutions for the wine industry, with a view to climate change, digitalisation and social sustainability.
Gerhard Kormann-Hainzl – Research Professorship in AI and Digital Transformation
Focus: analysis of the potential of generative AI for companies, development of AI-supported business models and research into ethical and economic aspects of digital transformation.
Department of Health Sciences
Jette Lange – Research Professorship in Nursing and Digitalisation
Focus: research into the digital transformation in nursing, ethical and technological issues, and the adaptation of nursing education to digital developments.
