Taster courses and support
Let’s talk: personal advice
At a university, you’ll find experts who can help you to make your decision. They can answer any questions you have about the university itself, about accommodation and finding a job, as well as financing and grants. You can arrange an appointment by mail or phone. Contact details are posted on the website of the university you want to apply to.
Studying? Just give it a try
Many higher education institutions offer tasters, where you can shadow students on their courses. It’s a great opportunity to get the inside line on what studying is actually like. Shadowing other students is free of charge. All you need to do is register beforehand. You can arrange a date for your taster on the Studieren Probieren platform (German only).
If the university you want to apply to isn’t on the site, you can contact the institution directly to find out more about tasters for your chosen degree programme.
Information events
All universities open their doors for regular information events – usually one in the winter semester and one in the summer semester. It’s a chance to talk to many different people connected with the university – from programme directors to students and lecturers. Targeted support, presentations and practical exercises are all designed to make the decision easier. What’s more, the info events are also a great way to get an impression of the campus.
