Helping you get off to a good start in Krems
We’re looking forward to seeing you in Krems. The International Welcome Center is your first port of call for non-academic questions to do with your stay in Krems – from travel arrangements and accommodation to German courses and leisure activities.
As your hosts we want you to feel as comfortable as possible. We’re there to assist our international students and guests right from the start.
Initial information and travelling to Austria
As soon as your study place has been confirmed, we’ll provide you with some important basic information. But don’t be afraid to get in touch with any questions. We know that there are suddenly dozens of things to take care of at this stage. Living away from home isn’t always easy. The International Welcome Centre team will always be happy to answer your questions and help if there’s something on your mind. We mean it when we say we are an international community.
You can count on us during your stay in Krems. And before, in fact: we’ll e-mail you important information before you arrive. We have also set up a Facebook group for our international students as a platform for asking questions and making contacts.
Preparations before you arrive
It is important that you make the necessary arrangements for travelling to and entering Austria. Depending on whether you are from an EU or European Economic Area (EEA) country, or a non-EU/EEA citizen (third country national), there are various formalities concerning your entry to Austria that need to be considered.
EU/EEA and Swiss citizens
You will only require a valid passport. If you are staying in the country for more than three months, you must apply to the relevant Austrian registry authority for a registration certificate (Anmeldebescheinigung). We will be happy to help you with this.
Third country nationals
You will need to obtain a student residence permit (Aufenthaltsbewilligung Studierender) for your stay in Austria and/or a visa to enter the country. You should apply to the relevant Austrian agency in your home country for a visa and/or residence permit in good time. IMC Krems will issue the required admission notice/confirmation of admission.
Please note that it takes at least 6 weeks to process a visa application and in some cases considerably longer depending on the embassy in question. It is therefore important to apply for your visa in good time.

Your first days in Krems
Arriving and making friends
When you’ve arrived safely in Krems, one of the first places you’ll visit will probably be the International Welcome Centre at IMC Piaristengasse, where you’re sure to receive a warm welcome. We’ll answer any questions you have and put you in touch with other international students so you can start to get to know people and make friends before the semester has even started. We want you to feel at home from the moment you arrive.
Welcome Days: especially for our guests
Before the semester officially gets underway, we always have something special in store for our international students: the Welcome Days, which all our new students from abroad are invited to. Get to know your new classmates and start to feel part of our international community. As well as meeting people, we’ll also give you some useful information for your stay in Austria, covering topics including university, finding a job, health, leisure and much more besides. Do the Austrians really only eat dumplings and yodel all day long? We’ll also clear up some of the clichés and tell you a few amusing details about life in our country. After that we’ll give you a tour of Krems and spend a day sightseeing in Vienna.
Support and leisure activities during the semester
From film evenings to the Christmas party and a trip to the State Opera House in Vienna.
Every semester, the International Welcome Center team puts together a varied programme of leisure activities for our international students. We’ll e-mail you the details, and also publish them via Xing Events and our Facebook Group. These activities are a great way to connect with other members of our international community, which will help to make your time at IMC Krems an unforgettable experience.
Got a problem? We’re here to help!
The International Welcome Centre is your point of contact for all non-academic matters while you’re studying at IMC Krems. Perhaps you need to arrange some medical treatment, want to move flat, or are looking for people with similar interests to you? Maybe you’re homesick or have a personal problem? Together we’ll find a solution – we’ll be there for you.
