The degree programme

Shape the future of healthcare. Our programme equips you with the skills you need, offering hands-on experience from the very start.

EXPERTISE IN THE HEALTH CARE SECTOR

The bachelor degree programme Business Administration for the Public Health Sector prepares you for professional responsibilities in the healthcare sector. Our graduates work, for example, in hospitals, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, social insurance companies, e-health start-ups, management consultancies or care facilities in order to improve healthcare.

The programme will provide you with a solid foundation in business administration and economics. The in-depth study of the healthcare sector and its relevant organisations will enable you to successfully apply this knowledge in specific professional contexts.

The programme will also train your capacity for joined-up thinking and making decisions based on ethical considerations.

REAL-WORLD FOCUS

One thing is particularly important to us throughout the programme: a high level of practical relevance. Case studies, projects with healthcare companies, and lecturers with a background in the industry are all part and parcel of the programme.

TIP

By the way: At IMC Krems, you also have the opportunity to use our Founders Lab alongside your studies. There, students receive support in implementing their start-up ideas and are guided through potential business ventures. Start-up service at its best!

Take advantage of the many opportunities offered by the degree programme. With your knowledge of what makes healthcare sector organisations work, a promising career is open to you. The in-depth insights from research and practice will prepare you perfectly for this. What’s more, you can opt for an exchange semester abroad at one of our partner universities and/or complete an internship in an international work environment.

Curriculum

A formula for success: theoretical knowledge + practical experience

The programme is built on three pillars.

Semesters 1 & 2

The basics

Acquiring sound basic knowledge is important for your future success. That’s why the curriculum includes business administration, economics and law. You will learn about information technology and enhance your social and (English) language skills.

Of course, the focus is also on gaining expertise in the healthcare sector: numerous courses are tailored to the special features of the healthcare industry and the healthcare sector.  For instance, you will learn about the basics of medical and nursing care, as well as about structures, players and processes in the healthcare system and health economics.

Semesters 3–6

Advanced courses

In the following 4 semesters, you will take the next step: You will deepen the knowledge you have built up during your studies and focus on healthcare facilities, pharmaceutical and medical device management and gain further insights into developments in e-health and public health. Human resource management, quality management and corporate management will enhance your skills profile as a business economist in healthcare.

Your bachelor thesis will give you the opportunity to repeat and deepen your knowledge of specific topics from an academic viewpoint.

Semesters 1–6

Practical experience

The majority of the students on the part-time programme work alongside their studies. The benefit for you: You gain valuable professional experience or can continue working for your current employer. As your colleagues also work in the healthcare sector, there is a lively exchange of ideas in class. You can debate questions in groups and share your own experiences with your fellow students.

Case studies, project work and lecturers from the healthcare sector are all part of the programme’s strong practical focus.
