The degree programme

During the degree programme, you will learn how to independently take on leadership roles in nursing, all while maintaining a focus on efficiency and the quality of care provided.

INNOVATORS FOR THE HEALTHCARE SECTOR

Are you eager to tackle the challenges of healthcare, such as the rise in chronic diseases and multimorbidity, increasing economic pressures on hospitals, care services, and health practices, as well as the ongoing digitalisation of the sector?

Do you thrive on reevaluating existing workflows and task distributions, pursuing maximum process optimisation, improving effectiveness and efficiency, or refining interface management?

If so, this degree programme is the perfect fit for you.

PRIMARY CARE IN FOCUS

A key emphasis is placed on primary care for the population. You'll explore primary care units, which are increasingly important in health promotion and prevention, even within highly technical settings.

BALANCING WORK, FAMILY, AND STUDY

The programme is designed to be compatible with your professional and family commitments. Classes are typically held every 2 to 3 weeks, from Thursday to Saturday, giving you free weekends between sessions. This structure allows you to balance your studies more easily with your job and/or family life.

Since our students explore the roles, concepts and models of advanced nursing practice in such great depth, it is the students themselves who will shape ANP in Austria. The practice-based project and master theses will support developments in the field.

Curriculum

A formula for success: theoretical knowledge + practical experience

The programme is built on three pillars.

Semesters 1–4

The core subjects

Discover how to leverage interdisciplinarity and multiprofessional collaboration to maintain and enhance the quality of your work in orthoptics, radiological technology, biomedical analytics, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietetics, speech therapy, and midwifery. The broad focus of the programme makes this possible.

Throughout your studies, you’ll learn how to integrate new digital systems, technologies, and health-related innovations into your professional practice, continuously improving the quality of your services.

You will delve deeply into health promotion, prevention, acute and long-term care, and rehabilitation. Additionally, the advisory role is emphasised, enabling clients to compare healthcare services and make informed decisions.

The practical elements & specialisations

Throughout the programme, our lecturers incorporate their professional experience into the teaching. Issues are discussed and addressed through case studies. You will also benefit from learning from your peers, who bring valuable insights from their professional experiences.

The core of the programme is the practical project, which spans all four semesters. This project involves problem identification, planning, implementation, and presentation of the completed work. Together with your patients, you will develop innovative solutions for real-life issues from your professional field or address future challenges.

Additionally, you will choose either a specialisation in Palliative and Hospice Care or Child and Adolescent Health. You will deepen your knowledge in one of these areas.

The research

A significant aspect of the programme focuses on the development and deepening of skills in philosophy of science and research ethics. Alongside students from the master degree programme in Advanced Nursing Practice, you will apply various scientific methods, learn to plan research projects, and conduct clinical studies successfully. Additionally, you will work on presenting research findings in various settings.

A particular emphasis is placed on the tension between evidence-based practice, standardisation, and personalisation, as well as modern knowledge management. You will explore how to integrate research outcomes into your professional practice.

During your master thesis, you will conduct independent scientific work, applying your advanced and new skills to address research questions. The thesis may be completed in groups and can be related to the practical project. It is also possible to collaborate on existing studies as part of your master thesis.
